The new rates, typically determined every three years, will impact the bills of Con Ed’s 3.7 million electric customers and 1.1 million gas customers in New York City and Westchester County.

That came amid public pushback against Con Edison’s recent proposal to raise electricity prices by more than 12% over three years. Natural gas prices would be raised 10% by 2028 — drawing anger from local leaders in New York City and Westchester.

The New York State Public Service Commission approved National Grid’s request in August to raise rates over three years. The company said the increases were necessary to keep up with inflation.

The nonprofit organization “Powerlines” says that last year, electric and gas utility companies asked state regulators to approve $31 billion in rate increases. That’s more than double compared to 2024.

National Fuel said the rate increase would be for 7.4% of total revenue, or $19.7 million, which would be offset for customers by returning $7.2 million in collected funds for retiree benefits they said are no longer needed.

• Washington Gas, which services around 151,000 D.C. residents, raised rates 13% on Jan. 1 — or an extra $11.24 per month, on average.
• Pepco, which supplies electricity to around 1 million customers in D.C. and Maryland, is wrapping up a two-year rate increase to modernize its grid.
